Fall 2020 Virtual Professional Development for Teachers
OSU Precollege Programs offers a series of FREE virtual professional development and learning experiences for K-12 educators. A series of virtual lessons will provide college connections and cover STEM content based on curricular materials developed by Precollege Programs in collaboration with researchers and partners.
As a response to targeted COVID-19 pandemic initiatives, our first professional development series aligns with the Oregon Department of Education’s new 20-21 Comprehensive Distance Learning Guidance.

Using Canvas to Facilitate iINVENT
- Presenter: Dr. Adam Talamantes, Program Coordinator, OSU Precollege Programs.

- Using Canvas to facilitate iINVENT: Are you an educator who wants to integrate invention into their distance teaching? Come learn about iINVENT and invention. Multilingual Learning Strategies for STEM

- Multilingual learning strategies for STEM: Teachers will be introduced to research based multilingual learning strategies around STEM, provide input on the multilingual learning strategies they are currently using, and receive a lesson with integrated multilingual learning strategies that is ready to use.

Cold-Fermentation For Bread Baking
- Presenter: Glen Li, Food Sciences, Oregon State University
- Grade Levels: 4-12
- Cold-Fermentation For Bread Baking: We will experiment with the practice of low-temperature dough leavening, and compare it with dough leavened under room temperature. We will also bake these doughs into bread and see if they taste differently.

DIVE4Agriculture: Virtual Reality Fieldtrips - PART 1
- Presenters/Facilitators: Yigit Yigiter (Timelooper), Susan Rowe and Dominique Brooks (SMILE and Precollege Programs, OSU); Maureen Hosty, Barbara Brody, Todd Williver, and Kristen Moore (OSU 4-H Extension).

- DIVE4Agriculture: Reimagining Virtual Reality Fieldtrips: In this PD session, presenters will introduce innovative virtual reality (VR) tools and educational opportunities available for educators and students. They will introduce the Dive4Agriculture project, in which OSU SMILE and Precollege Programs and OSU 4-H Extension collaborate to offer Pacific Northwest youth and educators opportunities to explore agriculture through immersive experiences, including virtual reality, and online activities that youth themselves will help create.
