STEM Academy Grades: 2-12 A nonprofit community-based program, offering enrichment educational opportunities, especially in science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) fields to elementary, middle, and high school students. Camps and classes are taught by experts in the community and at OSU and are held primarily on the OSU campus. STEM Academy is open to all motivated students. Scholarships are available to all who qualify. Outreach in Biotechnology The ORB program is an educational outreach education program to promote public understanding of biotechnology in agriculture and natural resources. The program aims to explain the science behind genetic engineering and examines some of the science-based concerns pertaining to the use of this technology in agricultural production systems. Mobile Science and Engineering Camps Since rural students have less access and opportunities to engage in STEM activities the Mobile Science & Engineering Camps were created. Small groups (3-4) of college students travel throughout Oregon to deliver 2-day hands-on STEM camps to middle-school students. Migrant Student Leadership Institute The purpose of the Migrant Student Leadership Institute is to build leadership skills in Oregon migrant students as well as to expose them to college life and encourage students to attend college, which for many of the migrant students, represent the first ones in their families to attend college. Also, students are encouraged to promote their leadership and self-esteem, but also to concentrate on giving and choosing a service project back in their communities.
